Because of the very location and setting, getting to Xinalani requires a certain level of physical fitness. Xinalani was designed for people in search of some kind of adventure. To get there, you will have to travel by panga, a small (25-30 ft) fiberglass Mexican boat with an outboard engine. You will most probably get your feet and knees wet as you jump off the boat on to the beach. The retreat center is built on a very steep terrain and there are a lot of stairs, (and no elevator!). Consider this your natural stair-master.
All guests arriving to the airport after 6:00 PM (as scheduled or due to delays or flight cancellations) will have to find their own accommodations at their own expense for the evening and will be transferred to Xinalani the following morning. They will receive a new transfer schedule and instructions notice by email in a timely manner. All departures from Xinalani before 8:00 AM will require an additional fee of $25 per guest.
About the teacher
I was introduced to yoga on my first trip to India in 1996 and I have never looked back! It has been the only constant in a life full of change. It has provided the roots and grounding that I have needed during the ups and downs of this journey called life….
Ashtanga Yoga was my passion for many years, the beauty and intensity of this practice was what my body and mind seemed to crave. Four babies later, my body and mind both crave something different…. Today my passion is any style of yoga combined with pranyama and meditation.
I really love the stillness that comes during practice, the connectedness that is only possible through that stillness, the peace and serenity that you can reach when you aren’t living in the mind….
Connecting to the present moment through my practice is one of my most treasured and greatest gifts. It has helped me through bigger challenges than I had ever hoped to know or experience. This is a place that I teach from, as, in a sense, it saved me… Letting go of the past, not worrying about the future, but being right here, right now, in this moment.
I’ve had the honor and privilege of studying with many amazing people along the way, including Sri K Patthabi Jois, Tim Miller, Ron Reid, David Williams, Nancy Gilgoff, Eddie Modestini and Nicki Doane, David Swenson, Fiona Stang and Julian Deck, Darby, and Rameen Peyrow.
“He who binds to himself a Joy,
Does the winged life destroy,
He who kisses the Joy as it flies,
Lives in Eternity’s sunrise.”
~The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying
I can’t even imagine my life without yoga in it. Each day I am reminded about the beauty and simplicity of life even in the most chaotic of situations. Yoga has helped me see more clearly and find peace within myself and others. It has been a continuous journey. Who am I? No different then you….. here is a little about my experience. I actually think yoga found me! I feel like I woke up for the first time on my mat. I vaguely remember how I even arrived for my first class, there I was bored out of my mind, stretching and breathing. I disliked my first class and then I discovered Ashtanga yoga which I instantly fell in love with.
I loved the connection of breath and movement simultaneously like a dance moving in harmony. I completed my Ashtanga Teacher Training in 2001 with Rockne White and my Sattva Training with Rameen Peyrow in 2011. I have been teaching since 2001 and it is the best job, it doesn’t even feel like a job as I love it so much! I feel so blessed to share the practice of yoga with so many wonderful humans. I love hearing the stories of so many who have woken up to the gift that is their life. I am amazed an intrigued by the power of our breath and the direct relationship to our minds and bodies.
The teachers that have influenced my teaching and passion for life are Rockne White, Nancy Gilgoff, Fiona Stang, Danielle Pechie, Susi Hately-Aldous, Suzette O’Brien, Gert Van Leeuwen, Rameen Peyrow, my family, friends and each and every one of my students.
