About the teacher

Moksha/Modo Yoga Retreat

Belinda Degano

I am passionate about sharing the amazing benefits and transformational power of yoga; which in turn inspired me to open Moksha Yoga Aurora in 2010 and Moksha Yoga Newmarket in 2016!  As a studio owner, I have been blessed to continually witness the daily transformations experienced by students practicing yoga.

I completed my 500 hour Moksha/Modo Yoga Level 1 Teacher Training in Thailand in 2006. I have also completed a 200 hour Hatha Yoga certification, Moksha/Modo Flow Training, Seane Corn Vinyasa Flow Training, and Moksha/Modo Advanced Training (Level 2).  I believe that learning and growing is a never ending continuum. I am grateful to have studied: Ashtanga with Diane Bruni, Maty Ezrati and Chuck Miller; Anusara Yoga Immersions with Shraddha, Naime Jezzeny, Desiree Rumbaugh, Martin and Jordan Kirk; Restorative Yoga with Judith Lasater; Vinaysa Flow with Seane Corn; Restorative & Yin with Ante and Felicia Pavlovic.

I am inspired by every student, and encourage each of them to connect with their inherent goodness, and limitless potential on and off of their mat.

I have been practicing yoga since 2004, and teaching since 2000. The practice of yoga has changed my life, in soooo many ways. It continues to remind me to see, and spend time tending, the place deep within (all of us), that is connected and complete. To remember and honor the space inside, that is divine and sacred, full of forgiveness, peace and love.

In my teaching I work with the movement of energy – chakras, touch, the subtle and emotional realms of the body, as well as the physical. I believe COMPLETELY in the transformative power of yoga, to facilitate shifts; physical, emotional and spiritual.  I believe in the Dharma, (which really just means love ), and in the power of practice to reveal the truth of each one of us – as a channel – a vehicle, for expressing love.

For me yoga practice, including -asana (yoga postures), meditation, breath work, intention, chanting, and more recently, Karma Yoga (the yoga of selfless service), -all have been pathways that have mapped a healing journey – from addiction / alcoholism and blinding self doubt…to a new land…one with lots of space….for acceptance, compassion and love.  My practice continues to bring me home, to remind me of what matters most, and in learning and practicing to love and care for myself, I am learning and practicing to love and care for this beautiful planet that we share – the lakes and forests and oceans and valleys, and all the beings, including the animals, who share it with us.

In 2016 we opened the doors of Moksha Yoga Newmarket and I am astoundingly grateful to be the co – owner of such a healing, community space. I have studied, Moksha/ Modo, with Ted Grand and Jessica Robertson; Vinyasa, with Seane Corn and Simon Park. Therapeutic and restorative yoga, with Susie Hately; Breath and Bandas, with Richard Freeman; Qui Gong, with Vince Bruni. I lead numerous retreats and workshops throughout the year, in Canada and abroad, and I am incredibly thankful to all my teachers… especially my students.

Jess Darmanin

My practice began in 2011, walking Toronto’s dark winter mornings for 6am classes (always a fan of early mornings), before heading to the office. My background includes 7+ years working for a variety of media outlets including Maclean’s magazine and the Toronto Star newspaper, working as a photographer, editor, and producer. What I loved most about my work was the connection I shared with people as they communicated their most intimate stories with me. It was this connection with people and my personal journey through yoga that brought me to Moksha/Modo Level 1 teacher training in Kelowna, BC in July 2016. Training has enforced my intention of Bodhichitta, the Sanskrit word used to describe an awakened mind motivated to work towards the liberation of all beings. Only we, the good people of this earth, can practice compassion for one another. Why not start this practice from our mats?
