Retreat from Extremes: Rejuvenate by Practicing the Middle Path

Retreat from Extremes: Rejuvenate by Practicing the Middle Path

From February 24 to March 03, 2018

Retreat from Extremes – The daily bombardment of extreme messages: good/bad, black/white, left/right, all/nothing— leads us to a climate of unease and polarization. Living within these rigid societal extremes makes it difficult to maintain a sense of stability and centeredness. Returning to a softer, more pliable state is essential to the cultivation of a healthy, rooted yoga practice.
During our week at Xinalani, we will move within the boundaries of extremes to gain a better understanding of our individual, black/white thought patterns. It is within this framework of “practicing grey” that a spacious, supportive, foundation will arise. After seven days of consistent moderation practice, you’ll return home with the ability to recognize when your thoughts/patterns are migrating to the extreme. More importantly, you’ll have the skill set to mindfully reassess, readjust and settle back into a more balanced, supportive space.

A DAY IN YOUR YOGA RETREAT

On the mat: While on our mats, we will identify asana extremes: to tuck or not to tuck? go to your edge or soften your edge? stack or square? relax or engage? The recognition of these asana Antipodes will provide you with a clear picture of your middle ground. Moving in this grey area with intention, supports a more satisfying, balanced yoga experience, and with it, endless possibilities.

Off the mat: Our days will begin with a challenging vinyasa flow class and will end with a restorative/yin class. Thus, we will quite literally be living our days between the physical extremes of effort and ease, walking the “middle-ground” walk.  Xinalani’s premises and extra offerings are wide-ranging and unique, and will compliment your energy/activity level, wherever you may find yourself on the spectrum of experience.
