A True Refuge: Mindfulness & Yoga Retreat

From January 19 to 26, 2019

Discover the benefits of Mindfulness Meditation (MBSR), Bodymind Ballwork and Alignment-Based Yoga with a joyful and heart-centered approach. Join Kate Mitcheom, Certified MBSR Teacher, and Ellen Saltonstall, E-RYT500 and C-IAYT, for slice of paradise this coming January.

Mindfulness Meditation also known as Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is an extensively-researched methodology used worldwide to alleviate chronic pain, anxiety, depression, and trauma. As an effective means of healing diverse symptoms of suffering, it holds many parallels to yoga and meditation.

Developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn in 1979, MBSR is used not only to alleviate chronic issues, but also day-to-day stresses. Described as a moment-to-moment process of non-judgmental awareness, MBSR’s foundational roots are grounded in meditation and everyday mindfulness. All aspects of this retreat will be infused with heart-based mindfulness.

Bodymind Ballwork is a bodywork system that can benefit people of any age or physical condition. It evolved from my forty-year practice of Kinetic Awareness, The distinct feature of Bodymind Ballwork is the use of rubber balls of varying sizes and textures (as small as a walnut and as big as a melon), which support, massage and stretch localized areas of the body.  There are techniques for every part of you, from head to toes. The result is a wonderful feeling of lightness and ease in the body, and quiet alertness in the mind. To quote one student: “It’s like having a massage therapist in your pocket”. Alignment-Based Yoga – pays attention to alignment and that helps to keep the practitioner safe.  And just as with mindfulness meditation,  we are practicing to remember that there is more right with our bodies than wrong. No matter what, as long as we are alive we have an opportunity to be with and learn from our bodies.

A Day In Your Yoga Retreat

We will begin the day with Ellen offering yoga for all levels and then after breakfast have a session of Mindfulness and meditation, great for beginners as well as those with an established meditation practice.  After lunch the afternoon is free to relax, swim or go on an excursion.  Before supper Ellen will offer BodyMind Ballwork, (like a mindful self-massage).  The evenings are open for socializing and revelry.
